Culture Unshock

An old friend of mine hung out with me a couple of days ago during which time he and I caught up on recent events.  I’m not exactly sure how we got onto the subject but, the conversation got steered into how and where he grew up.  He went to a private boarding school as one of the few Indians on the campus.  Because of that fact, he lost a lot of his own heritage and became “whitewashed” a slang term referring to when someone from a minority gains the properties of a Caucasian.  I am obviously not speaking of the physical aspects but rather how it is that we act.  It’s strange when I think of it, yet that is human nature at its very core.  Being able to adapt to a situation should the need arise.  It just goes to show how far it can actually develop when it envelopes an entire personality.
